Abstract

Bu araştırmada, sözlü iletişim becerilerinin geliştirilmesine ilişkin sınıf öğretmenlerinin yaptıkları çalışmaların belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada elde edilen verilerin toplanması, analizi ve yorumlanmasında nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmaya Trabzon ve Rize illerinde görev yapan 15 sınıf öğretmeni katılmıştır. Öğretmenlerin sözlü iletişim becerilerinin geliştirilmesine yönelik yaptıkları çalışmaları belirlemek için öğretmenlerle yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmelerden elde edilen veriler betimsel analiz ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmadan elde edilen sonuçlar, öğretmenlerin dinleme ve konuşma becerilerinin geliştirilmesine yönelik çeşitli yöntem ve tekniklere yer vermediklerini, bu becerilerin kazandırılmasında birçok sorun yaşadıklarını ve sözlü iletişim becerilerinin değerlendirilmesinde yalnızca gözlemlere yer verdiklerini ortaya koymaktadır. Bununla birlikte öğretmenlerin bu süreçte kendilerini kısmen yeterli gördükleri belirlenmiştir. Araştırmada sözlü iletişim becerilerinin geliştirilmesine yönelik çeşitli önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

An Investigation of the Activities Elementary School Teachers Do to Develop Students’ Oral Communication Skills

Year 2018, Volume: 6 Issue: 1, 166 - 182, 30.01.2018
https://doi.org/10.16916/aded.369876

Abstract

In this study, the
aim was to determine the activities elementary school teachers did to develop
their students’ oral communication skills. Qualitative research design was used
for data collection, analysis and interpretation in the study. 15 elementary
school teachers in the provinces of Trabzon and Rize participated in the study.
Semi-structured interviews were conducted in order to determine the activities the
teachers did to develop their students’ oral communication skills. Data
obtained from the semi-structured interviews were analyzed through descriptive
analysis. The results of the research showed that the teachers did not use
various methods and techniques to develop their students’ listening and
speaking skills, that they experienced many problems in helping their students acquire
those skills, and that they used observation only in the assessment of oral
communication skills. Nevertheless, it was found that the teachers considered
themselves partially qualified in the process. Several suggestions have been
made regarding the development of students’ oral communication skills.
