Öz
Okuma, geçmişte olduğu gibi günümüzde de bilgiye ulaşmada insanlar tarafından en çok tercih edilen yöntemlerden biridir. Özellikle de bilginin bu denli hızla üretilip aynı hızla tüketildiği bu zamanda okuma, insan için tercihten çok bir ihtiyaçtır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, ortaokul öğrencilerinin okuma tercihlerinin neler olduğunu belirlemektir. Araştırma nitel bir çalışma olup temel nitel araştırma deseni ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışma grubunu, 2019-2020 eğitim-öğretim yılı birinci döneminde Millî Eğitim Bakanlığına bağlı devlet okullarında 5., 6., 7. ve 8. sınıflarda eğitim gören 20 ortaokul öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma verileri yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formuyla toplanmıştır. Bu form, araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilmiş olup 10 uzmanın görüşüne sunulmuş, uzmanların görüşleri doğrultusunda son hâlini almıştır. Form, 11 maddeden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmada elde edilen veriler içerik analizi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Değerlendirme sonucunda öğrencilerin ev, koltuk, kütüphane gibi sessiz ve rahat ortamlarda okumayı tercih ettiği; ilgi alanlarına giren kitap türlerini diğerlerine göre daha çok okudukları; sessiz okuma yöntemini diğer yöntemlere göre daha çok tercih ettiği; okuma tercihlerinde ailelerinin ve öğretmenlerinin birinci derecede etkili oldukları; basılı kaynakları elektronik kaynaklara göre daha çok tercih ettiği; arkadaşlarının okuyup üzerinde konuştuğu bir eseri okuma tercihinin öğrencilerde aynı etkiyi yaratmadığı tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca öğrencilerin çoğu, okumanın insana daha çok bilgi ve başarı kazandırdığını; okumayı daha çok bilgi edinmek, kendini geliştirmek amacıyla yaptıklarını; okumayı öğrendikten sonra kendilerini daha iyi ifade ettiklerini, bilgilendiklerini, özgürleştiklerini ifade etmişlerdir. Araştırmadan elde edilen bu sonuçlar, başta aileler olmak üzere öğretmenler, alan uzmanları, kitap yazarları gibi eğitimin içinde olan tüm paydaşlara fikir verebilir.

Öz
Reading is one of the most preferred language skills by people in accessing information today, as it was in the past. Especially at this time when information is produced and consumed at such a rapid pace, reading is more of a necessity than a choice for people. The aim of this study is to determine the reading preferences of secondary school students. This research is a qualitative study and was carried out with a basic qualitative research design. The study group consists of 20 secondary school students studying in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades in public schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in the first term of the 2019-2020 academic year. Research data were collected with a semi-structured interview form. This form was developed by the researchers, presented to the opinion of 10 experts, and took its final form in line with the opinions of the experts. The form consists of 11 items. The data obtained in the research were evaluated by content analysis. As a result of the evaluation, it was determined that the students preferred to read in quiet and comfortable environments such as home, armchair, library; they read the types of books that fall within their field of interest more than the others; prefers silent reading method more than other methods; that their families and teachers are primarily effective in their reading preferences; prefers printed sources more than electronic sources; It has been determined that the preference of reading a work that their friends have read and talked about does not have the same effect on students. In addition, most of the students think that reading gives people more knowledge and success; they do reading in order to gain more knowledge and improve themselves; They stated that after learning to read, they expressed themselves better, became more informed and liberated. These results obtained from the research can give an idea to all stakeholders in education such as teachers, field experts, book authors, especially families.
