İstatistik Okuryazarlık ve Mühendislik İlişkisi: Toros Üniversitesi Mühendislik Fakültesi Örneği

Öz

Veri bilimine olan ilginin ve önemin artması ile veriden bilgiye dönüşümün temel taşlarından olan istatistik okuryazarlığının önemi de artmıştır. İstatistik okuryazarlığı ile elde edilen; yanlış bilgiyi doğru bilgiden ayırma, problemleri doğru bir şekilde yorumlama ve analiz etme kabiliyeti, yani analitik düşünme becerisi, rekabetçi dünyada bireyleri kariyerlerinde bir adım öne taşımaktadır. İstatistik bilmenin bireylerin kariyerlerine ve hatta yaşantılarında bu kadar etkisinin olması bu çalışmanın ortaya çıkmasını sağlamıştır. Bu çalışmada Toros Üniversitesi, Mühendislik Fakültesinde eğitim gören lisans öğrencilerinin istatistik okuryazarlık düzeyleri belirlenirken, kariyerlerinin daha başında olan öğrencilerin farkındalıklarını arttırmak amaçlanmıştır.

Relationship between Statistical Literacy and Engineering: Toros University Faculty of Engineering Study

Öz

With the increasing interest and importance of data science, the importance of statistical literacy, which is one of the cornerstones of data-to-knowledge transformation, has also increased. The ability to distinguish misinformation from correct information, to interpret and analyze problems correctly, i.e. analytical thinking skills, obtained through statistical literacy, takes individuals one step ahead in their careers in a competitive world. The fact that the knowledge of statistics has such an impact on individuals' careers and even their lives has led to the emergence of this study. In this study, while determining the statistical literacy levels of undergraduate students studying at Toros University, Faculty of Engineering, it was aimed to increase the awareness of students who are at the beginning of their careers.
