Abstract

Communication with Old People: Bibliometric Mapping and Content Analysis

Year 2021, Volume: 14 Issue: 1, 27 - 39, 30.06.2021
https://doi.org/10.46414/yasad.931423

Abstract

Due to their existence and nature, people communicate both with themselves and with people from the moment they are born until the moment they die. It is a fact that people experience some physical, cognitive, psychological and social development or change in each year they live, when they get a new age throughout their lives. These developments and changes are also affecting people's communication skills. With each passing year, developing and changing people's communication skills, which were previously limited, and the communication channels they use, increase and become enriched. In daily life practices, the individual who is constantly in contact with himself and with other individuals socializes, tries to communicate effectively with other individuals and continues to age in this process. As a result of the aging process, the life period, which is called old age and defines individuals aged 65 and over, is entered. Situations that prevent individuals from communicating effectively with their environment begin to emerge in the old age period. This situation becomes an important problem for both the older adults person and his environment or caregivers. In order to find a solution to this problem, it is seen that many studies have been carried out on older adults and their environment (family, friends, doctor, nurse, etc.). The aim of this study is to examine the studies on older adults and communication between 2016-2020. For this purpose, the data obtained from the Web of Science database were examined with bibliometric analysis and visualized with VOSviewer mapping method. The number of articles conducted between 2016-2020 was analyzed using bibliometric indicators in the form of number of citations, universities with the highest number of publishing and author network analysis.
