Abstract

Abstract

Native speakers can produce speeches in their own language, but the way to become a good speaker is through education. One of the ultimate goals of education of Turkish as native language that the students who have a certain speaking skill can correct their mistakes and deficiencies through a number of strategic moves and express themselves verbally in a consistent and effective manner. Speaking strategies, methods, techniques and activities, which constitute the implementing dimension of speech education, are the primary teaching items that teachers will use in developing students' speaking skills. Therefore, the curriculum and textbooks should be structured within the framework of strategies, methods, techniques and activities that can be used in various speech situations. When the curriculum is analyzed, it is seen that there is no clear distinction between speaking strategies, methods and techniques and there is no explanation for the functions of speaking strategies. Also it’s seen that impromptu speaking strategies aren’t included in the curriculum. The aim of this study is to determine and classify speaking strategies in studies about impromptu speaking and public speaking, then offer suggestion of impromptu speech strategies. This study conducted with the Grounded Theory method and 40 studies were selected as the study object. Data were analyzed by coding technique. At the end of the study, 5 unprepared speaking strategies were proposed: making a mental speech plan, benefiting from social and collaborative learning environments, conducting memory development studies, conducting excitement control studies and evaluation.
