Abstract

The city is a place that exists with
people and continues to exist with the people. This place transforms into an
identity producing civilization due to its dependence on people in the
historical process. The similarity of the concepts of urbanization and
civilization comes from the fact that they both contain human beings. The authors, who are prone to emotional
intensity and artistic perception, design both their external worlds and their
inner worlds with aesthetic sensations. This outer world is also paid as a
city. Yahya Kemal Beyatlı and Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar are among the writers who
perceive the historical phenomenon in Turkish literature together with the city
and perceive both in artistic sense and in the focus of national identity. The
main body of this book is how the concept of city is perceived in
human-history-civilization plane in the works of these writers. Mehmet
Güneş, in his book which he dedicated to his teacher M. Orhan Okay, examines
the phenomenon of city in depth and includes the perspectives of local and
foreign thinkers. Then he deals with identity, fine arts, landscape,
architecture, music, change, entertainment, women, institutional structures,
visual arts, spiritual leaders, natural and human subjects. This handling is in
the frame of Yahya Kemal Beyatlı and Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar's works. The cities
that affect the lives of these two writers around the phenomenon of the city,
Mehmet Güneş, have reflected in a deep perspective. This book allows our
cities, which are forgotten to be forgotten in the imagination of readers, to
be remembered again by the hand of the authors with their artistic design and
aesthetic feeling.
