Abstract

Abstract

Changes and developments in the world are more than ever, and the development of technology goes beyond imagination. The rapidly digitizing world evolves into the virtual world, which is a reflectived artificial state of reality, and enters into an "other" world with various components separate from itself. The concept of virtual universe, which first started with science fiction novels, later continues with online or offline games, and today it begins to take place in daily life with various applications. The Metaverse universe, which promises its users freedom of place, time and even character, narrows the boundaries of the physical world and the virtual world and offers an alternative life. Metaverse, which has started to be talked about in most areas of life, promises a great innovation for education and even a new and virtual learning environment. In this study, it is aimed to examine the place of the Metaverse universe, which may become our new world in the near future, in language teaching, which aims to establish an effective communication with the active use of comprehension and expression skills, and how language teaching can be based on the studies in the literature. It is seen that Metaverse, which offers students the freedom of time and space, offers advantages in the fields of problem solving, learning by experiment, collaborative learning and culture learning, and to teachers in terms of material preparation and use.
