Assoc. Prof. Deyana Peneva, PhD is a full-time lecturer at the Department of English studies at Konstantin Preslavsky University of Shumen. The theoretical and practical contributions of her scientific production are in the fields of Applied Linguistics, Pragmatics and Speech acts phenomena. She was awarded a doctoral degree in Philology (Germanic languages – Modern English) after successfully defending a dissertation on the apology speech acts in English and Bulgarian. Her habilitation work entitled “Expressing Gratitude in English (a pragmalinguistic study based on a Bulgarian learners’ corpus)” is a natural continuation of her scientific preferences. Currently she has lectures and seminars in Phonetics and Phonology (compulsory module); two elective modules – Speech acts in English and Bulgarian language – grammar and pragmatics and Linguistic models and strategies of speech communication in English language; as well as classes in Practical English – grammar (C1-C2 certificate levels), translation, essay writing, specialized translation, conversation practices with Applied Linguistics (English and German/Russian) and English Studies students in undergraduate programmes. She also has lectures in Tour-guide practicing (on-site training) in the MA programme English language for tourism and business.
