Aim: Viral infections caused by rubella and CMV may cause serious damage to the fetus when transmitted during pregnancy. In this study, it was aimed to examine the seropositivity of anti-Rubella and anti-CMV antibodies and its age distribution in pregnant women who were followed up routinely due to pregnancy. Method: In the study, the presence of anti-Rubella and anti-CMV antibodies in blood samples taken from pregnant women who were sent to the Microbiology Laboratory of Mersin Erdemli State Hospital between January and December 2018, was investigated by obtaining from the hospital records. Results: Of the total 1639 serum samples that were tested for anti-Rubella IgG, 91.7% were found to be positive, 6.2% negative and 2.1% as limit value. In 1736 total serum samples that were tested for Anti-Rubella IgM, 0.5% was determined as positive, 99.3% as negative and 0.2% as the limit value. A total of 1703 (100%) serum samples that were tested for anti-CMV IgG were all detected as positive. Of the 1728 serum samples, which were tested for anti-CMV IgM, 0.3% was found to be positive, 99.4% negative and 0.3% suspicious. Conclusion: As a result of the study, all pregnant women were found be positive for anti-CMV IgG seropositivity. These data support that all pregnant women in the study had CMV infection until pregnancy. Anti-Rubella IgG seropositivity was determined as 91.7%. This positivity changes with age. Besides it can be concluded that the first 10-year age band before 2006 may be risky. For this reason, rubella follow-up is utmost important in the follow-up of women who are planning pregnancy in this age group.
