Knowledge and Applications of Intensive Care Nurses on GETAT in the COVID-19 Pandemic

Year 2024, Volume: 6 Issue: 1, 84 - 97, 25.04.2024

Abstract

This study aims to determine the preventive practices utilized by intensive care nurses against COVID-19 disease, including the application of Traditional and Complementary Medicine (TCM) methods during the treatment process of the disease. The study was completed with 100 nurses working in the intensive care units of state hospitals between September 15 and December 15, 2021. Ethics committee permission was obtained. Data collection was conducted throught an online questionnaire encompasing participants socio-demographic characteristics as well as their knowledge and implementation of Traditional and Complementary Medicine (TCM). The normal distribution of data was assessed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and kurtosis-skewness. Statistical significance was determined at p<0.05. Among the nurses the usage rate for various complementary therapies were as follow: acupuncture (88%), aromatherapy (62%), ozone therapy (80%), bioenergy (41%), relaxation techniques (85%), hydrotherapy/spa (83%), and hypnosis (79%). Additionally a high percentage of nurses were familiare with certain practices: prayer/prayer practice (90%) , massage (96%), reflexology (41%), painting, music, and dance therapy (77%), therapeutic touch (56%), yoga (77%), and phytotherapy (80%). Among themselves, nurses who were diagnosed with COVID-19 primarily employed herbal treatments (23%), ozone therapy (16%), aromatherapy (8%), and yoga (3%) during their recovery period. An analysis revealed a statistically significant correlation between educational attainment and familiarity with, as well as the utilization of aromatherapy, a form of TCM (p<0.005). Nurses are encouraged to engage in further research on TCM practices and enhance their knowledge by incorporating these methods into their nursing care practices.

Yoğun Bakım Hemşirelerinin COVID-19 Pandemisinde GETAT’a Yönelik Bilgi ve Uygulamaları

Year 2024, Volume: 6 Issue: 1, 84 - 97, 25.04.2024
