ON SEMANTIC VIOLENCE APPLIED IN THE WAR PROPAGANDA

Year 2018, Volume: 13 Issue: 26, 161 - 180, 29.12.2018

Abstract

The study aims to explain the technique of distorting and destroying
the words, applied in propaganda, by the concept of semantic violence.
Semantic violence is violence against language structures, in which
traditional and generally accepted meanings, definitions, associations, and
semantic contexts of concepts are subject to change. The research examines
the mechanism, conditions and types of semantic violence using semiotic
and semantic analysis techniques. For this purpose, we analyze a number of
expressions used during the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which influenced
the sharp increase in hostility between two friendly nations. In the results,
we point out that the practice of semantic violence impedes the basic
functions of language such as cognition and communication, and thus
negatively affects social life.

SAVAŞ PROPAGANDASINDA UYGULANAN SEMANTİK ŞİDDET ÜZERİNE

Year 2018, Volume: 13 Issue: 26, 161 - 180, 29.12.2018
