Abstract

Abstract

Interpersonal competition and job
insecurity are the main characteristics of today’s working life and affect
employee attitudes and behaviors to a considerable extent. In this study, the effect
of perceived competitive work environment and job insecurity on job strain was
examined; and the moderating role of achievement goal orientations on perceived
competitive work environment-job strain and perceived quantitative job
insecurity-job strain relationship was tested. Field study was conducted on
medical sales representatives working in Adana. Research data was obtained from
226 participants via survey method and analyzed by reliability, confirmatory
factor analysis, correlation and hierarchical regression analysis. Study
findings demonstrated that perceived work environment is related to job strain
positively and the moderating role of achievement goal orientations is not significant.
 Besides, the relationship of perceived
quantitative job insecurity with job strain was found to be positive and
moderated by mastery and proving achievement goal orientations.
