ÜNİVERSİTE ÖĞRENCİLERİNİN “PIERCING”E YÖNELİK BİLGİ VE TUTUMLARI

Year 2013, Volume: 2 Issue: 3, 153 - 159, 31.12.2013

Abstract

KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE OF UNDERGRADUATES ORIENTED “PIERCING

Year 2013, Volume: 2 Issue: 3, 153 - 159, 31.12.2013

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The study has been conducted in order to determine knowledge, attitude and manner of undergraduates about piercing.

METHODS: 3392 undergraduates registered to English preparatory classes in Department of Foreign Languages of Ege University comprise the population of the research that is a defining type. The participants have been evaluated with the data form and assessment form prepared after having examined the relevant literature by the researchers.

RESULTS: 171 girls and 151 boys from 13 Departments of Ege University, in total 322 undergraduates have participated into the research. Average of age is 19.3±0.98. The ratio of having a piercing in the whole group is 20.5% and 84.5% of those having a piercing are girls. A significant difference has been found between piercing existance and gender and the place she/he stays during university education (p

CONCLUSION: In accordance with these results, it is seen that the knowledge level of the undergraduates related to piercing application is insufficient. The increasing trend toward this subject is not to be ignored. Moreover, it can be proposed that undergraduates and even secondary education students may be given education related to such applications which have an effect on serious health problems as HIV, Hepatitis C and tetanus.
